Finding the Right Job

Job searching can be a difficult task that requires several hours a day. Job seekers may spend lots of time searching for jobs, applying for openings, filling out lengthy applications, creating cover letters, and following up with employers.
They may also take several days to revise their resume so that it's updated. Recommendations and referrals are another crucial step in the job process. If you don't have anyone attest to your work ethic and expertise, you may have a hard time getting a job offer.
If your job search is not moving on to the next level, there are a few things you can evaluate.
Your cover letter is the first an employer looks at, even before a resume. It's your best chance at making a good impression. If you aren't receiving any calls, it's time to revise the cover letter. Even if you don't have a lot of experience, this is your opportunity to shine.
The cover letter should be no longer than two to three paragraphs and should outline why you want the job, why you'd be great at the job, and a summary of your years of experience. It may be that your cover letter isn't long enough or doesn't divulge enough information.
After revising your cover letter, do a Google search for resume templates and upload some new ones, free of formatting. It's always a good idea to change up your resume if you haven't received any responses during your job search. Make sure all the appropriate key words related to your job are found in your resume.
After revising both the cover letter and resume, take a second look at your job search approach. Are you applying to several different jobs a day? Are you looking at other industries? Are you willing to change your salary requirements or possibly look at relocation?
It's important to remain flexible during your job search. You may need to consider things you previously would not have thought possible. For example if you are applying for nursing jobs in Raleigh, North Carolina, but you haven't gotten any interviews, it may be time to look at other cities.
Finding the right job opening involves tenacity and patience. Oftentimes the best jobs are buried beneath jobs that aren't legitimate or hundreds of jobs that don't match your skills. You'll spend a lot of time toggling search results so the best results float to the top.
Setting up job alerts on various job boards can give you a healthy advantage over the competition. You can set up alerts for keywords, jobs opening up in certain geographies, and job opportunities that match your skills.
Once you've gotten an alert, you should quickly apply to the job. The first resumes an employer receives remain fresh in his or her mind. He may even call you first if your resume pops up before the rest.
When searching for jobs, it's important to know your priorities. Do you value salary over benefits? Are you looking for a strong 401K option? Is the mission statement of the employer something you take very seriously? Are you interested in working with non-profits? All these questions should be asked along the way.
